We first met some of the young water champions from Strathmillan Elementary School when we presented last year to a particularly enthusiastic Grade 4 class. Inspired by what they learned about Lake Winnipeg, these students went on to collaborate on a series of watercolour paintings, write letters to local politicians and organize a successful fundraiser for LWF.

Love, Lake Winnipeg: A tribute to the songs of Sol Sigurdson
Our Love, Lake Winnipeg: a tribute to the songs of Sol Sigurdson EP features four tracks from Riverton singer-songwriter Sol Sigurdson’s 1970 cult classic, The Lake Winnipeg Fisherman, reimagined by Manitoba musicians Jess Reimer, DJ Co-op, Scott Nolan and John K. Samson, and Mise en Scene.
Included with the EP is an eight-page full-colour booklet featuring messages from Sol and producer John K. Samson, as well as lyrics to all four songs.
Our Jan. 14 Love, Lake Winnipeg benefit concert saw Manitoba musicians honour classic Manitoba folk songs - and the singer-songwriter who wrote them - all in support of Manitoba's great lake. Thanks so much to the 300 people who braved the cold to join us at the West End Cultural Centre to celebrate Sol Sigurdson, listen to some amazing music and raise funds for LWF. Truly, it was a night to remember!

Classic Lake Winnipeg folk songs get a musical makeover
We’re excited to announce a creative new fundraiser for LWF!
Love, Lake Winnipeg: A tribute to the songs of Sol Sigurdson is a collaborative project featuring select tracks from Riverton singer-songwriter Sol Sigurdson’s 1970 cult classic, The Lake Winnipeg Fisherman, reimagined by contemporary Manitoba musicians DJ Co-op, Mise en Scene, Scott Nolan and John K. Samson, and Jess Reimer.
Produced by John K. Samson, former frontman of acclaimed Winnipeg band The Weakerthans, this limited-edition four-song EP will be released on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at an exclusive benefit concert in Winnipeg at the West End Cultural Centre (WECC). As an expression of our thanks – and in celebration of LWF’s 10-year anniversary – all audience members in attendance will receive free copies!
