Another busy summer is coming to a close. As always, we had a great time visiting lakeside communities, taking part in events (and hosting our own!) and meeting the many supporters whose passion and commitment drive our foundation and make a healthy Lake Winnipeg possible. Here are just a few shots from the 2017 summer season.
WOW. Victoria Beach broke its own record with 181 walkers participating in this year's event! Together, these passionate lake-lovers raised a whopping $21,696 - and the pledges are still pouring in! We are so very grateful for the amazing community support. Way to go, VB!
A big thank you to lake-lovers from the community of Dunnottar who braved the heat to take part in our 2017 Walk for Water. Together, we raised $5,384 (and counting!) in support of a healthy Lake Winnipeg!
Now an annual event, Beats on the Beach 2017 is just around the corner! Join with other lake-lovers at Saffies General Store in Albert Beach on Friday. Aug. 12 and be entertained by a free concert featuring muisc from Fever Rose, Jordan Yarish, and Mama G and the Majors. Don’t forget to treat your sweet tooth, as well, with Saffies tempting dessert auction. Delicious pies, cakes, cookies and homemade jams will be up for bid - with all money raised donated to the Lake Winnipeg Foundation!
Celebrate Lake Winnipeg at our newest summer fundraising event!
Lake Bash 2017 takes place on Friday, Aug. 18 at Farmers Hall, a recently restored community dance hall just outside town. This not-to-be-missed evening event will feature:
Delicious Lake Winnipeg pickerel and all the fixings from our friends at The Pickerel Rig
Live music from country rocker Leanne Pearson (performing a special acoustic set), grandfather-grandson guitar-and-fiddle duo Peter & Keenan Karish, and the Vezina Family Band, a multi-generational, old-time country band from Stoney Point, Manitoba
Join us on Friday, July 21 for the Grand Marais Central Market! Taking place from 3 to 7 pm at Grand Marais Community Central (located at 36058 Provincial Trunk Hwy 12), this is your chance to pick up some of our unique fundraising products - including our new lake-themed glasses and coasters!
While you're there, learn more about our work to restore and protect the health of Lake Winnipeg, and how you can get involved, too. Hope to see you on the 21st!
Come find us at the Lakeshore Heights Family Fun Day! This event takes place on Saturday, July 8, at the covered community structure on West Street (at Lakeview Ave). Stop by our table to learn more about Lake Winnipeg and what we're doing to protect it. We'll also have some of our unique fundraising products with us!
We are thrilled to launch a new collaboration with Barn Hammer Brewing Company. Big Water, a limited-edition, lake-themed gose, will be available while supplies last for the month of July. Barn Hammer’s generous co-owners Sable and Tyler Birch will be donating $1 from the sale of each bottle to LWF. Giving has never been so refreshing!
“Going to the lake is an essential part of summer for so many of us in Manitoba,” says Alexis Kanu, LWF’s executive director. “We’re excited to celebrate local breweries and local lakes – two ingredients for a great Manitoba summer!”
