Alex Martin, an 18-year-old kayaker from Winnipeg who is graduating from high school this June, is about to embark on an epic summer adventure.

Alex will be attempting to circumnavigate the entire shoreline of Lake Winnipeg by kayak – a 1,750 km trip that he will be attempting solo which will take approximately two months to complete.

Winnipeg endurance athlete John Sawchuk is swimming, cycling and running his way to his 70th birthday – all while raising funds for LWF!

John’s goal is to complete 777 kilometres of swimming, biking and running in 28 days, beginning on July 26 and ending on August 21, his birthday.

He’s also using this challenge to support LWF and hopes to raise $7,777 in donations.

Join us at the Gimli Yacht Club from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 for the very first Save the Lake Fundraiser in support of LWF!

The Kiwanis Club of Gimli & District and the Gimli Yacht Club have put together a family-friendly event with something for everyone, including:

Join us in cheering on Alex Martin as he begins his 1,750 km trip along Lake Winnipeg’s shoreline. This passionate, 18-year-old kayaker is spending two months of his summer paddling to promote water stewardship and the recreational merit of the lake.

Alex’s launch will take place at Grand Marais Point, in Grand Beach Provincial Park – all are invtied to meet at 10 a.m. on the beach in front of Parking Lot 1, just after the gate entrance while driving down Highway 12.
