Global Connections

Living along side of the world’s 10th largest lake, Manitobans have a good sense of global-scale issues like climate change, water and air quality deterioration, and biodiversity loss among others. We are also aware that small scale developments can grow quickly into broader problems that can have far reaching impacts, e.g. the 2010 Gulf Oil spill.

We know that the decline of Lake Winnipeg health is the result of thousands of individual human actions throughout its’ watershed. Other communities around the world are experiencing their own environmental problems and so we must contend with ecosystem deterioration on a global scale.

The only adequate response to such extensive and inter-connected environmental problems must be the collective action of communities around the globe. The members of the Lake Winnipeg Foundation care about the global ecosystem that sustains all humanity and are striving to work with other groups to restore the vigor and health of Earth’s lands and waters for the benefit of people to come.

Therefore, together with 65 other like-minded organizations scattered around the world as members of the Living Lakes Network of the Global Nature Fund, the LWF is joining in the global effort to restore the health of our planet. Through the sharing of knowledge, experience, and support, LLN members are helping each other to restore environments, livelihoods and hope.
