LWF is an ENGO committed to supporting programs and projects that encourage solutions to the problems in Lake Winnipeg and its watershed. Your donations are helping us fund
RESEARCH

• Conservation District efforts, such as East Interlake ecological monitoring of the Icelandic River
• LWF Sensitive Habitat Inventory and Mapping (SHIM) of the south basin of Lake Winnipeg
• Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium Education and Outreach program, partnered with Community Foundations of Canada
• Aerial surveys to monitor the Lake’s south basin shorelines, adjacent marshes, and wetlands

EDUCATION

• Presentations to many groups such as  schools, service clubs, cottage owners associations
•Subsidies for school transportation costs for student environmental field trips
• Sponsorship of lake-related films at the annual Gimli Film Festival
• Red Zone community forums held to openly discuss scientific facts about the lake and its watershed
• LWF supports Waterlutions – A Learning Experience for developing environmental leaders of tomorrow

FUNDING PARTNERSHIPS

• For example, École St. Avila Rain Garden Bioretention Project, Dead Horse Creek Contaminant Study, LaSalle River Basin Nutrient Project, RRBC Red River Dredging Study, and Edie Creek Bioretention Project

ADVISORY

• LWF encourages governments to promote the lake’s ecological health through legislation, policy, and programs
• Co-development of the Living Lakes Network Canada
• Development of SHIM guidelines for decision-makers in the protection of existing wetlands, biodiversity, lake habitats and the restoration of damaged wetlands
